My Precious Place/ Заветный край

Often the place itself evokes dreams and ideas which later take shape in the art work. Being around my country studio I see things and get fruitful exciting ideas for pictorial imagery in my works and my natural dyeing research work. So blessed to have found this place! Sometimes you have to step back, look around and appreciate that you have a chance and inspiration to work.

Есть край, где высокое небо, широк горизонт и бескрайние просторы южных дюн напоены терпким сосновым ароматом и запахом степных трав. В таком месте мне посчастливилось обосноваться со своей мастерской. Здешняя атмосфера сама задает тон и навивает сюжеты для моих работ и темы для дальнейших изысканий по натуральному крашению. Хорошо успевать ценить хорошие вещи вовремя! Сейчас время разнообразных зеленых форм и свежих всходов. Считать по осени еще не время, хотя Солнцеворот уже миновал. Толстый друг – белка ест все время, наверное наедается впрок. Мои самые ценные ресурсы для крашения сосредоточены, где только есть место: на грядках и в саду, вперемежку с ароматным разнотравьем. Одна из моих июньских студенток Татьяна Маюрова, талантливая валяльщица, поделилась своими впечатлениями от совместной работы у меня в мастерской здесь. Работы Татьяны очень интересны и стоят того, чтобы их повнимательнее рассмотреть здесь.

Summertime. But it is not easy. In fact, it has been pretty hard this past half a year. God knows how hard. But then you all, my friends, have been real support for me, your kind sincere messages and words of support helped me a lot to get trough the darkest and hardest times during past half a year. I really appreciate you being there for me! Thank you a lot many times! The situation in my country is still being complicated and not easy but I feel much confident, though still on the alert every day, but I strongly hope for the best…

Okay, getting back to the subject.  I have just finished the first part of my Summer practical classes with students at my studio. The next part will be in July. Meeting people and working with them introducing to my approaches in textiles is a mighty enjoyable activity for me. Hope, my students enjoy the time they are spending at my studio as well.

In the focus of attention of the June Practice was Contact Dyeing with predictable and versatile outcome. We touched upon the theoretical and practical sides of the contact extraction of plant material onto fabric and the ways of making the Contact Dyeing results versatile, not looking alike every time, and the methods of controlling the extraction process on different types of surfaces, i.e. plain fabrics, felted, nuno felted, etc. Another interesting aspect of the program is the aesthetic aspect of textile design of wearables.

Absorbing is moment when practice proves the theory! Theory is dry and dead, but the Tree of Life is evergreen with leaves, so to say. Not always green leaves other colors as well, and not just leaves, prints  did we get from the pots!

Лето – славная пора во всех отношениях. На этот раз лето непростое. И добавить тут нечего. Однако, работа продолжается и приносит с собой радость неожиданных открытий и новых знакомств.

Только что завершила первый этап практической работы с учениками у себя в мастерской в этом сезоне, начавшийся в конце мая. Интенсивно, напряженно, увлекательно для меня, как учителя, и надеюсь, что плодотворно для моих слушателей

Захватывающий момент, когда теория подтверждается практикой, а практика, подкрепленная твердой теорией, ведет к дальнейшему “развитию сюжета” и радует результатами. Как известно, практика, не подкрепленная теорией, часто заводит в тупики, мягко говоря. А про теорию без практики – даже и упоминать не стоит.

В фокусе июньской программы – технические сбособы получения ранообразных, заведомо отличающихся один от другого результатов контактной экстракции натуральных красителей на текстильных материалах. Иными словами, мы разбирались, как сделать так, чтобы не все результаты крашения выглядели бы одинаково; каким образом можно влиять на процесс; правильно планировать процесс с учетом особенностей как поверхности материала, так и специфики его предназначения. Эстетическая часть – построение декоративной композиции текстильного произведения.
