Samples with the Local Plant Material/

While working on my next entry on Catalpa plant I’d like to share these photos of cotton samples contact dyed with plants from my yard and area. Mordants: alum and iron. Extraction time: 1,2 h. Revealed to oxidation in the air, i.e. opened, immediately after cooking and upon cooling down for about 35 min.

Three big catalpa leaves on the background lemon yellow shade; three strawberry leaves give Aquatinta like effect; sumac fruit dots.

Maple leaves; cotinus leaves; birch and black poplar.

Mounting ash ( Sorbus), sumac fruit and four leaves yielding very nice and wash fast yellows of a plant I still have to identify.

Cotinus and sumac leaves.

Black poplar, birch and my unidentified yet plant.

These samples are shown after being washed in the washing machine and pressed.
